Baptist Health Care is a faith-based, non religious-affiliated, multi-facility healthcare organization based in Pensacola, FL. We have approximately 5,500 employees.
In the mid 1990s, Baptist made the decision to become one of the best healthcare systems in the country. This decision led to deployment of three specific strategies:
- Adoption of a Pillar-based framework for goal-setting, leader alignment, and consistent accountability for results
- Investment in continuous development of our leaders, so they have the tools/tactics to meet their annual goals
- Dedication to creating and sustaining a cultural environment of employee and physician engagement, that focuses on always providing the best patient experience possible
Baptist succeeded with its vision, as evidenced by the following achievements over the last 12 years:
- Received the Malcolm Baldrige National Award for Quality
- Patient satisfaction moved from the 17th to the 99th percentile
- Received 22 Summit Awards from Press Ganey
- Employee satisfaction increased from the 15th to the 89th percentile
- Market share grew by 10%
- Claims severity dropped by 50%
- Umbrella premium costs decreased by 50%
- Pressure ulcers decreased three-fold
- Outpatient revenue increased by over 50%
Key to Baptists success is sustainability of performance over time. This level of performance enabled Baptist to survive a Category 4 hurricane (which left 10% of our employees homeless), and a tough economic climate in 2008-2009 (a year in which we posted the best financial results in the history of our organization- more than doubling our net income in one year).
A key part of Baptists mission is to help other hospitals improve performance, by leveraging the tools, talent and best practices of Baptist Leadership Group.
